Iranian President-elect: Int’l Quds Day Shows Muslims’ Unity against Tyranny
(FNA) – Iranian President-elect Hassan Rouhani appreciated the Iranian people for their massive participation in the International Quds Day rallies on Friday, and said the event indicates the world Muslims’ unity against tyranny and injustice.
Rouhani said that people’s presence in the International Quds Day serves as a big spiritual and political support for Palestinians.
Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of the International Quds Day rallies on Friday, he said the International Quds Day is a legacy of the late Imam Khomeni and marks the Muslim world’s unity against tyranny and injustice.
He added that the day also shows that the world Muslim people have not forgotten their historical right.
Recalling Zionist regimes efforts for expansion of Jewish settlements in the Palestinian occupied lands, Rouhani said on the eve of the peace talks, the regime continues aggression and expansion of settlements in the region.
The International Quds Day was started by the late Founder of the Islamic Republic, Imam Khomeini, in 1979 as a way of expressing solidarity with the Palestinians and underscoring importance of the holy Quds to Muslims.
International Quds Day is an annual event opposing Israel’s occupation of Beitul-Muqaddas. Anti-Zionist rallies and demonstrations are held on the last Friday of Ramadan in Muslim and Arab countries around the world, and especially in Iran.
