US Train and Equip Division Enters Syria from Turkey: Reports
Fifty-four armed troops who have been trained under the train and equip program have passed into Syria on the 12th July through the Kilic Oncupinar Turkish-Syrian Border gate, The World Bulletin news website citing sources from Al-Jazeera Turk.
“The unit was accompanied by a 30-vehicle convoy and is currently waiting in the Malikiya region of Aleppo’s A’zaz region,” it said.
According to the website sources, the group is ready to engage in warfare against the so-called ‘Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant’ (ISIL) takfiri group near the northeastern Savran front.
The 30th division that was formed was trained and setup to fight against ISIL, with a total of 154 troops being given training in Syria and Jordan. Training took a total of 74 days in Turkey.
The American trained unit has been equipped with 30 pickup trucks, medium range M-16 rifles and light infantry ammunition. There was also an expected air bombardment as additional support.
