US legitimizes Israel’s occupation of Palestine
Mehr News – Iran’s envoy to UN Gholamali Khoshroo called the occupation of Palestine the root cause for all the regional crises and said that US stance toward al-Quds (Jerusalem) legitimizes the policy of occupation.
Gholamali Khoshroo attended the UN open session on ‘the culture of peace’ held on Friday and expressed his gratitude toward the UN for adopting the proposal presented by Iran called ‘World Against Violence and Extremism’ (WAVE).
Khoshroo urged all the governments to take into account the consequences of their actions for the fragile peace throughout the world. Condemning the attempt made by certain countries to legitimize the policy of occupation, he called the occupation of Palestine the root cause for all the regional crises.
Iran’s envoy to UN asserted “any attempt to deny Palestinians of their inalienable rights, especially with respect to the holy city and Al-Aqsa Mosque will only deteriorate the conditions.”
Khoshroo slammed the recognition of Jerusalem as the capital city of the Zionist regime by the US and the US plan to transfer its embassy to Jerusalem. Having stressed that al-Quds is occupied he criticized the US actions to establish the present conditions as illegal.
He said that the measures taken by the US in this regard indicate its dishonest, hypocritical policies toward peace and stability in the Middle East and called US disregard of basic international and civil rights of the people of Palestine in line with its support for the Zionist regime.
Iran’s envoy to UN stressed “the world holds the US and the Israeli regime responsible for any dire consequences of their irresponsible, illegal actions. “Throughout history, peace and occupation has never coexisted serenely, and as for Palestine, as long as they continue occupying it, no peace can be accomplished,” he asserted.
Underlining that certain countries prefer sanctions and violence over diplomacy and dialogue, he said that the conduct adopted by such countries strengthens extremism and undermines the culture of peace and tolerance.
Iran’s envoy referred to the recent defeat suffered by ISIL and other terrorist groups in Iraq and Syria and called it a historic turning point for peace in the region that was achieved as a result of courage and perseverance shown by Iraqi and Syrian government and people.
“Unlike such military defeats, ISIL ideology and the network giving birth to such terrorist groups are still alive and as long as the world is not wiped of Takfiri ideology which inspired ISIL and similar terrorist groups, no final victory over ISIL and terrorism can be accomplished,” Khoshroo warned.
