US Elections: Trump Become 45th President

Donald Trump had won 276 electoral votes, becoming the 45th president of the United States. His rival Hillary Clinton, the Democratic Party candidate, did not concede the election from her headquarters in New York.

TrumpCNN reported that Clinton had called Trump to concede as he was expected to address his supporters soon. President-elect Donald Trump began his remarks by apologizing, “Sorry to keep you waiting,” over some “complicated business.”

He went on graciously and praises Clinton, “I just received a call from Secretary Clinton. She congratulated us on – and it’s about us – on our victory, and I congratulated her and her family on a very, very hard fought campaign.” He went on to say, “She fought hard. Hillary has worked very long and very hard over a long period of time, and we owe her a major debt of gratitude for her service to our country. I mean that very seriously.”

Trump said it was time “for America to bind the wounds of division.” He added: “It is time for us to come together as one united people. Ours was not a campaign, but rather, an incredible and great movement.” The President-elect Trump sets out his vision and said in his victory speech: “Every single American will have the opportunity to realize his or her fullest potential.”

“The forgotten men and women of our country will be forgotten no longer. We are going to fix our inner cities and rebuild our … infrastructure, which will become, by the way, second to none,” Trump continued, adding: “We will get along with all other nations willing to get along with us. We will get along fairly with everyone,” he said, and seek “partnership, not conflict.”

The President-elect Trump concluded his victory speech by saying: “We will get along with all other nations willing to get along with us.”

Vice President-elect Mike Pence briefly addressed a crowd of supporters in New York, thanking his family before saying, “it is my high honor and distinct privilege to introduce to you the president-elect of the United States of America, Donald Trump.”

“This is a historic night. The American people have spoken, and the American people have elected their new champion. America has elected a new president, and it’s almost hard for me to express the honor that I and my family feel that we will have the privilege to serve as your vice president of the United States of America,” he added.

Republicans also kept their House of Representatives and Senate majorities in Tuesday’s elections, giving Trump the ability to overturn many of Barack Obama’s policies once he is inaugurated.
