PFI strongly condemns massacre of Myanmar Muslims

IRNA – The Popular Front of India (PFI) has strongly condemned the reported killings of Rohingya Muslims in Myanmar and demanded the Congress-led UPA government to initiate diplomatic intervention in the issue to ensure protection of the Muslim citizens of Myanmar.

The National Executive Council of PFI held at Calicut, a city of Kerala state, passed a resolution condemning the massacre of Muslim citizens of Myanmar. The genocide of Rohingyas in Arakan has continued uninterrupted since last June and has now spread to other areas.

“It is indeed a shameful fact that the international community is behaving like a mute spectator. Neither the United Nations nor the major powers of the world have come forward to stop the genocide. Even the Nobel peace laureate Aung San Suu Kyi of Myanmar has disappointed the world by her silence, MuslimMirror online reported. It is also very unfortunate that the Indian government has not yet intervened in this issue. The world largest democracy cannot stay silent when such brutal violations of human rights are occurring in our neighboring country”, O.M.A Salam, General Secretary, PFI said.

The Popular Front demanded the UPA government to initiate diplomatic intervention in the issue to ensure protection of the Muslims of Myanmar. “We also urge the government to take up the issue to the UNHCR and propose strong resolution against the Myanmar Government. And we also demand immediate deployment of UN peace keeping force in the area. We also urge the Indian government and the international organizations to take immediate steps to provide humanitarian aid and rehabilitation for the victims”, the party said.

Meanwhile, violence has spread in other parts of Myanmar. According to reports, Muslims have vanished from Sit Kwin town as sectarian violence led by Buddhist mobs spreads across central Myanmar. Muslims in Sit Kwin were always a small group who numbered no more than 100 of the village’s 2,000 people.

According to the report, Muslims’ homes, shops and mosques destroyed, some Muslims end up in refugee camps or hide in the homes of friends or relatives and dozens have been killed.
