Lebanese Blocs Confer Nominees for Premiership as Consultations Loom
Vagueness prevails few days before the Parliamentary consultations will start at Baabda presidential palace Friday and Saturday in order to pick a new prime minister.
Concerning the names which would be discussed, it seems that the socialist party, under the command of MP Walid Jumblatt is to nominate a neutral figure, while al-Mustaqbal party is looking forward to hold an agreement with Speaker Nabih Berri.
According to media reports, the socialist party member Wael Abu Faour, said his party has decided to nominate a neutral figure who is accepted by former PM Hariri.
Abu Faour, who was due in Beirut form Riyadh late on Monday, said that this nominee is to be tasked with forming a neutral government that will carry out the parliamentary elections, according to 1960 electoral law or a new law.
Reports also said that Mustaqbal was seeking certain agreement with Berri.
Meanwhile, care taker Prime Minister Najib Mikati, who announced resignation on March 22, is resting on being accepted as a PM by foreign powers in a bid to stay on the head of the new cabinet.
For his part, the head of Free Patriotic Movement, MP Michel Aoun relies his stance according to the portfolios his party will have in the new government.
