Lavrov: No-Fly Zone in Syria Serves Extremists, Hinders Geneva II
Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said on Tuesday that a no-fly zone and “humanitarian corridors” in Syria wouldn’t help holding the expected Geneva II conference.
During an interview with the Kuwaiti news agency Kuna, lavrov stated that “adoption of documents which bear only the Syrian authorities the full responsibility for what is happening in the country and announcing the intention of arming the Syrian opposition, along with calls for establishing a no-fly zone and opening humanitarian corridors, do not help in the preparation of the conference”.
Lavrov stressed that those who are acting as such must realize that these steps match “on ground” with actions committed by al-Qaeda terrorists and other extremists who are trying to hinder the conference and any peace process in Syria.
“They are acting as such in order to organize terrorist bloody operations and sectarian murders like Hatla massacre in Deir Ezzor”, Lavrov concluded.
