Israel Acknowledges Direct Role in Assassination of Hezbollah Commander
(FNA) – Israeli officials for the first time acknowledged that they had killed Lebanese Hezbollah top commander, Imad Mughniyeh, in a terror attack in Damascus in 2008.
Mughniyeh was killed by car bomb in Damascus on February 12, 2008. Although Israel refused to claim responsibility for the terrorist move, some news reports indicated the Israeli spy agency, Mossad, was responsible for the killing.
In an interview aired by the German TV network, Israel’s former Envoy to Germany Avi Primor acknowledged Israel’s direct involvement and responsibility in the attack.
Primor was speaking about Syria’s possible response to the recent Israeli air raid on a research center in a Damascus suburb, when he said, “Like 2008, when Hezbollah and Iran pledged to conduct operations against us (Israel) throughout the world when our intelligence service (Mossad) assassinated Mughniyeh”.
