Iranian FM Spokesman: Extremists, Zionists behind Friday Bombings in Lebanon
(FNA) – Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Seyed Abbas Araqchi strongly condemned the recent terrorist attacks and bombings in the Northern city of Tripoli in Lebanon, and took Takfiri extremists and Zionists responsible for the massacre of the innocent Lebanese people.
“Undoubtedly, the wicked hands of the Zionist regime of Israel have now come out of the sleeves of Takfiri groups and irresponsible extremists, who intend to sow the seeds of sedition and undermine national unity and peaceful co-existence of different Lebanese ethnic groups, particularly Islamic sects”, Araqchi said on Friday.
He added that the vigilant Lebanese nation will once more stop their enemies from seizing any opportunity to benefit themselves, thanks to the foresight of their religious and political leaders.
Two explosions rocked the Northern city of Tripoli on Friday, leaving over 42 people dead and 500 others wounded.
The first blast took place near the Taqwa Mosque, while the other took place near the Salam Mosque.
Civil Defense teams and ambulances flocked to the scene as a number of people were reportedly wounded, the Naharnet reported.
Tens of people were killed and wounded in the attacks, Al-Mayadeen TV reported.
The blasts took place as worshipers were exiting the mosques following weekly Friday prayers.
One of the explosions took place near caretaker Prime Minister Najib Miqati’s residence, but he was not in the city at the time.
