Iran urges unity among palestinian groups

(FNA) – Unity plays an important role in the Palestinian groups’ move towards comprehensive national reconciliation talks, a senior Iranian legislator said on Sunday.

“Removing the gaps and differences among the Palestinians can lead to a comprehensive national reconciliation in Palestine”, Rapporteur of the parliament’s Principlists Fraction Seyed Ramezan Shojayee Kiasari told FNA.

He referred to the third round of reconciliation talks between the Palestinian Hamas and Fatah groups which are due to be held in Cairo, and said, “The closeness of the Palestinian groups to each other can render great help to the reclamation of the Palestinian territories which have been usurped by the Zionist Jews”.

Shojayee Kiasari called on all Palestinian groups to set aside differences and hold healthy elections to move in line with the Palestinian cause and fight against the occupiers.

In similar remarks in September, Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Ramin Mehman-Parast called on all Palestinian groups to maintain unity in a bid to defend their rights and solve problems in Palestine, and renewed Tehran’s offer to host talks among Palestinian groups and factions.

Answering a question about Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad’s proposal to host talks among Palestinian groups, the Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman said, “Mr. President sees unity among Palestinian groups as the solution to the Palestinian problem”.

“All (Palestinian) groups should stand beside each other and defend their rights. They may face difficult conditions and different countries may impose their will on them if they stand separated”, he told reporters in his weekly press conference here in Tehran today.

The Iranian spokesman further stressed that the Palestinian issue is a top priority of the Islamic Republic’s foreign policy.

“We consider the issue of Palestine as the main issue of our foreign policy and accordingly we make our utmost efforts to materialize the Palestinian nation’s cause”, he added.

Also, earlier this month, Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, in a meeting in Cairo with his Palestinian counterpart Mahmoud Abbas, called on all Palestinian groups to maintain unity in a bid to defend their rights and solve their country’s problems.

During the meeting on the sidelines of the Organization of the Islamic Cooperation (OIC) summit meeting in the Egyptian capital, the two presidents discussed different issues, including unity among Palestinian groups against the Zionist regime of Israel and its aggressions.

President Ahmadinejad urged all Palestinian resistance groups to remain united against Israel in order to defend their rights and people.
