Iran Mourns on Anniversary of Imam Khomeini’s Demise
(FNA) – Iranians from all walks of life gathered at the mausoleum of the late Imam Khomeini on Tuesday to mourn the anniversary of the demise of the Founder of the Islamic Republic and also to renew their allegiance to his ideals.
A number of top Iranian military and political officials as well as foreign ambassadors and guests have joined the ceremony.
The ceremony is also attended by Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei.
A large number of domestic and foreign journalists and photographers will give coverage to the event.
The mourners, who have come to Imam Khomeini’s mausoleum from different parts of the country and also from various countries, are dressed in black.
Every year, millions of Iranians from across the country travel to Tehran to pay tribute to the late leader.
Imam Khomeini returned to Iran after 14 years in exile to lead the Islamic Revolution that toppled the Pahlavi monarchy back in 1979.
Imam Khomeini passed away on June 3, 1989, ten years after leading the uprising that put an end to the Pahlavi regime.
