UN: more than 125 million people need humanitarian aid

Mna – The conflicts and natural disasters have caused that more than 125 million people will need humanitarian aid in 2016, United Nations warned.

At a meeting at its headquarters in Geneva, the UN assessed the situation of providing aid to victims of armed clashes, violent extremism and natural phenomena globally.

According to the Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and UN Emergency Relief Coordinator Stephen O’Brien, the solution of this human drama must stick to the principle of ‘leaving no one behind’, launched in September for the adoption of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development .

Also, Mr. O’Brien urged for a political solution to conflicts in Syria, Yemen, Central African Republic and South Sudan, where the war have caused that millions have no access to health services, education, water and many people were displaced.

He emphasized about the commitment of partners to help the people in need, but warned that they ‘urgently require more funding’ in order to provide shelters, food, medicine, health articles and other resources.

In his speech, the Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs called for the support of the international community, particularly for those who suffer from the impact of wars and natural disasters.
