Gaza Reveals Western Hypocrisy
Tehran Times – During the past months, Western governments’ hypocrisy and double standards on human rights have been exposed time and again. The solemn faces slamming Russian “war crimes” in Ukraine quickly turned to apathetic and indifferent ones when Israel began to carpet bomb Palestinians in Gaza and incite famine against the remaining population that manage to dodge Israeli fire.
“Westerners, who raise a commotion about the execution of a convict, have closed their eyes to the killing of 30,000 innocent people in Gaza. And the United States has shamelessly vetoed the resolution for a ceasefire for the umpteenth time,” said the Leader of the Islamic Revolution on Saturday, referring to the West’s propaganda campaigns in the past years aiming to lionize individuals convicted of murder and terrorism in Iran.
“A façade using well-groomed and smiling politicians is hiding the truth about Western culture, civilization, and democracy. These governments resemble rabid dogs and bloodthirsty wolves rather than avid supporters of human rights,” Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei added.
The West has been under great scrutiny since Israel began its wave of onslaughts against the besieged Gaza Strip on October 7. The regime has not spared any civilian sites in its military campaign, attacking and demolishing every home, hospital, school, mosque, and church perceptible in Gaza.
Meanwhile, it has imposed a “full blockade” on the strip allowing only a limited number of food trucks to enter Gaza through the Rafah border crossing while occasionally opening fire on the vehicles or displaced Palestinians trying to reach them.
The flow of aid to Gaza is expected to dry up further with the UN declaring that it would no longer be able to deliver food to the enclave due to the “breakdown of law and order”. The announcement came after several Western countries said they were suspending funds to the organization’s relief and work agency which is the main body aiding Gaza’s population amid the worsening humanitarian disaster.
The decision was made based on unfounded Israeli claims saying 12 out of 13,000 UNRWA staff members had helped Hamas during its October 7 operation in the occupied territories. UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has slammed the fund cuts as “collective punishment” which is what Israel seems to have been doing since the beginning of its gut-wrenching war on Gaza.
All the recent atrocities against the Palestinians, and the West’s untrammeled support for the Israeli regime have drawn alarm among some figures who believe the governments in Europe and North America are losing face in other parts of the world.
“We should be aware that, for the rest of the world, it is the moral collapse of the West. It will probably have no concrete consequences but let’s understand we have lost any moral clout and legitimacy,” Gerard Araud, former French envoy to Washington, warned on X in response to the U.S. veto of the third UN Security Council resolution calling for a ceasefire in Gaza.
Besides Gaza, the only times the West was exposed for its hypocrisy on human rights was when WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange published a huge cache of secret files exposing U.S. war crimes across the world. It seems, however, that this time, Western governments would not be able to sideline the truth by jailing a journalist and labeling him as a criminal. Gaza laid bare the West’s true stance on human rights, meaning this newfound understanding of Western reality will not be lost with any form of manipulation, force, or propaganda.
“The West’s civilization and its misguided values will not prevail. Rather, a culture based on truth and the correct reasoning of Islam will ultimately triumph over,” Ayatollah Khamenei stated.
