Bahraini Regime Attacks Muslim Mourners

bahrainAlwaght – Bahraini security forces attacked Shiite Muslims in several ceremonies during the mourning month of Muharram. Bahraini regime attacked nine ceremonies across the country destroying flags, placards, and other symbols of mourning used by the Bahraini Shiite majority.

During the lunar month of Muharram, Shiite Muslims mourn the martyrdom of their Imam Hussein (PBUH) along with his 72 followers as a symbol of resisting the injustice and oppression. The attacks were followed by clashes in some areas between the outraged public and the regime forces.

The forces have been targeting Muharram religious rituals since the past week with 35 attacks. On one occasion, they rounded up and investigated the heads of mourning circles in al-Dair Village in the northeast Bahrain.

Bahrain is faced with civil protests initially demanding equal rights for the Shiite majority. The protest was oppressed with iron fist by the ruling monarchy, although demonstrations continued demanding removal of Al Khalifa dynasty.
