Syria crisis major subject of talks with Egyptian officials

He made the remarks in a press conference with Egyptian Foreign Minister Mohammed Kamel Amr in Cairo.

‘Syrian crisis could be resolved through a Syria-Syria solution without foreign interference; Egyptian initiation which involves major regional countries for resolution of the Syrian crisis is one of the best solutions for the crisis; Iran has invited both Egyptian president and foreign minister to visit Tehran; Persian Gulf security and stability is very important to Tehran’.

Salehi warned about enemy divisive plots and noted that Iran had paid a high price for its support of Palestine.

Egyptian FM, for his part, called resolution of Syria crisis as the main topic of talks, noting that Iran has an important role in regional developments.

‘Egyptian initiation for the resolution of Syrian crisis can help stop of the bloodshed, there; Syrian crisis should be resolved by Syrians themselves and regional countries should prevent more damage to the Syrian nation,’ Kamel Amr added.

Iranian foreign minister on Thursday held talks with his Egyptian counterpart on ways to promote bilateral ties as well as latest regional developments, including Syria.

They also exchanged views on promoting cooperation in the field of tourism in view of numerous cultural common grounds.

The two foreign ministers discussed cooperation in the context of Non-Aligned Movement (NAM).

In the meantime, Egyptian President Mohammed Mursi in a meeting with Iranian FM on Thursday praised Iran’s efforts for stopping violence in Syria.

‘Egypt is severely against the foreign intervention in Syria; Muslim countries should do their best to stop violations, there; Iran is a great country which has an important role in making peace and friendship among nations,’ the Egyptian president said.

Mursi invited Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad to attend the upcoming of the Organization of the Islamic Cooperation (OIC) leaders’ summit meeting in Cairo.

During the meeting, which was held in the Egyptian capital city, Cairo, Salehi for his part said that Iran is ready to provide the experience it has gained since the victory of the Islamic Revolution to the Egyptian nation.

He also conveyed the Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad’s invitation to the Egyptian president to visit Tehran.

Earlier today, Salehi held talks with his Egyptian counterpart and the UN-Arab League Special Envoy to Syria Lakhdar Brahimi.

Salehi and Brahimi discussed the peace plans laid out by both Iran and Syria to end the conflict in the Arab country.

The Iranian minister also voiced Iran’s readiness to help settle the ongoing unrest in Syria.

The issue of Palestine was also top on the agenda in the talks between the Iranian official and Arab League chief.

Salehi visited Benin and Ghana on Saturday and Sunday as well as Burkina Fasa on Tuesday.

After the collapse of Hosni Mubarak’s regime, Iranian and Egyptian officials voiced their interest in the resumption of diplomatic relations between the two countries and Salehi officially invited the then Egyptian counterpart Nabil Al-Arabi to pay a visit to Tehran.

Later, the Iranian foreign minister and his former Egyptian counterpart also held a meeting in Bali, Indonesia.

Also, during the Non-Aligned Movement summit in Tehran late August 2012, Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad and his Egyptian counterpart conferred on ways to promote the bilateral relations between Tehran and Cairo, and stressed the need for continued consultations in this regard.
