Nasrallah Said It before: “US Will Abandon Kurds”
Hezbollah Secretary General Sayyed Hasan Nasrallah had said it before. His eminence had warned the Kurds that the US would abandon them.
In a speech in February 2018, Sayyed Nasrallah wondered about the $500 mn to $750mn aid allocated by the Pentagon to the so-called Syria Democratic Forces (SDF) and Kurdish People Protection Units (YPG).
“What is the purpose of that? Is it for democracy to prevail in Syria? Or is it to defend Kurds whom I have to advise that they should take lesson from previous experiences,” Sayyed Nasrallah said on February 16, 2018.
His eminence warned that the US administration has been “using the Kurds as tools in their battle against the Syrian government, the Islamic Republic in Iran, Russia and the Axis of Resistance.”
“And at the end, when they (officials in US administrations) will reach their goals they will abandon… They will sell you like slaves in the market,” Sayyed Nasrallah said, addressing Kurds allied with the US.
US announced on Monday (October 7, 2019) it was withdrawing its troops from northern Syria, with President Donald Trump saying it was ‘too costly’ to keep supporting US-allied Kurdish forces in the region.
Following the US announcement, SDF spokesman Kino Gabriel said the Kurdish forces have been “stabbed in the back” by Washington’s move.
Nasrallah: US Untrustworthy, Don’t Bet on It
Nasrallah on Tuesday called on people in the region not to bet on the US for it is untrustworthy.
In an address during weekly sermon at Sayyed Shuhada Complex in Beirut’s southern suburb (Dahiyeh), Sayyed Nasrallah stressed that events taking place east of Euphrates River are considered a message to the region’s people, referring to US’ decision to withdraw troops from northern Syria, abandoning allied Kurds in light of a planned Turkish offensive in the area.
“It is a message for all the region’s people and all those who bet on the Americans. It’s time for region’s people to look for right choices and to know that betting on US brings nothing but failure,” Sayyed Nasrallah said.
His eminence, meanwhile, stressed the need for awareness and insight in a bid not to be deceived by the nation’s enemy.
