‘Americanization of international law’ jeopardizes global security

Irna – The secretary-general of the Human Rights Headquarters warned that the Americanization of international law threatens global security by promoting unilateralism, prioritizing U.S. interests over universal principles, and using human rights as a tool for political dominance.
Tehran, IRNA – A senior Judiciary official says the Islamic Republic of Iran is committed to countering acts of adventurism and terrorism, adding, “The Americanization of international law jeopardizes the security of nations.”
In his remarks on Wednesday, Nasser Seraj, Secretary-General of the Human Rights Headquarters, highlighted America’s unilateralism, the weakening of international solidarity, and the challenges and tensions created by the United States for the global community.
Seraj added that the concept of American human rights, which reflects the broader policy of Americanizing international law, has been shaped as part of U.S. political strategy and power projection.
He noted, “The Americanization of international law involves imposing U.S. legal models, norms, and practices on the international legal system and organizations. This prioritizes America’s national interests and security while undermining universal and binding principles of international law.”
“Unilateralism, the prioritization of power over law, the weakening of international solidarity, and the creation of challenges or tensions for the global community are key features of the Americanization theory in international law,” he said.
Seraj said, “Overall, American human rights, both in theory and practice, represent a combination of human rights claims and widespread violations, seen both in the United States and on the international stage. This situation arises from America’s exceptionalism, racism, and political-economic interests, which have turned human rights into tools for dominance and the imposition of U.S. policies.”
He added, “The Human Rights Headquarters of the Islamic Republic of Iran, through an active approach, exposes instances of U.S. human rights violations while pursuing justice for Iranian victims in both international and domestic forums. It seeks to amplify the voices of these victims globally by utilizing media, legal, and diplomatic platforms.”
